pickles.. :/

Well today I didn't have to be at school until 9:35 it was nice to get to sleep in on a Thursday. When I got to school I had English class. I have discovered that everyone here thinks I know every town in the states, oh and that I know every grammar rule in the book. They are sadly mistaken if they are counting on me for grammar lessons.. :/ I had to read a paragraph infront of the class. I also now know why every german thinks American drink Whiskey all the time. Every picture in our english book about drinking as a bottle of Whiskey in it.. After english I had Chemisty, History, and then Spainsh. I am starting to understand more and more but still not enough to participate in class.

So I named this blog pickles because after school I went into the city with Jaqueline. We wanted to eat at Burger King.  I orderd mine and said I wanted everything because that was easier. Jaqueline went to order her meal but she didn't want pickles. Well the cashier didn't speak english and we don't speak German.. :/ Problem..
I tried to explain to Jaqueline that you could just pick them off but my English was not making sense. So I described a pickle to the man and he just looked at me like I was so dumb.. He then proceeded to yell for another man in the back working. He came up and I simply said No Pickles.. He goes ok and hits one button.. (: After that we paid  and were on our way..
This story really has no point but nothing else exciting went on today.. I rode the bus home with my sister and now I am blogging. I got a new sweater today and some heels.. (:
Tomorrow I think I am going to go to the movies with my sister. Should be fun translating all of that..
Thank you for taking the time to read about my life.. <3

Busy Busy Busy

Sorry for not blogging yesterday and not today until now. I have been busy with school and going places with my family. Yesterday, School was School. In English my teacher made me stand up and talk about Iowa.. Of course I said it was the place to be. Then I didn't really have anything else so every student got to ask me a question. I got asked the typicals: Do you have sibling, What does your house look like, can you drive, do you have your own car, what are your hobbies...It was fun. My teacher tought me how to Waltz infront of the class. (: Oh yeah, I also got asked if I live on a farm. I said yes then I got asked my dad or grandpa were cowboys.. Then someone asked if I was a cowgirl. My English teacher asked me why I drive everyday to school instead of taking the bus.. I didn't really have an answer to that one. He told me its because Americans don't think about the environment but I think we are getting better at it. Not really sure though. In my free period there was a girl doing here English homework she was suppose to write deffinitons down. She asked me what Frankly meant.. I don't think I have ever used that in a normal conversation. Then when I got home I found a girl my age who rides my bike she wants to hang out so the friend situation is getting better. I do miss walking down the hallways and getting hugs. Here I don't hug anyone. It is weird. I mean I probably could if I wanted but then it would be super awkward.. (: German class yesterday was awesome I am learning to much.. I am starting to understand sentences instead of just words.
Today... well I went to school. I only had a few classes beacause our Geography teacher was sick and we got out at noon because the teachers had a conference. When I got home my host mom made hamburgers for lunch. They were pig meat but still amazing and pretty close to good ol' Iowa hamburgers. After that my host mom and I went to get Nicoli from tennis practice. He is always doing something. Once we got him from practice we went to a zoo type of park where you could walk around but they also had animals to pet. I tried to feed a Llama but another animal with a beak came up and snatched it out of my hand.I screamed.. (: It was fun. I was not feeling to well after getting home and my sister needed to go to the store so I said I would go with her. She bought a new pair of shoes and we looked for a cable to our computers instead of sharing every night. No luck. Maybe on the internet. While we were in the supermarket we saw a girl who looked very American. Her and her friend were speaking english. So after about 10 min of debating if I was going to ask her I walked up to her and asked if she was from Germany. She answered No I am from Australia. So there is another English speaker in my town. She is leaving on Saturday. She has been here for 3 weeks for school.. (:
Well I am going to call it an early night so I can get up on time and shower..
Auf Wiedersehen..<3

Routine.

Hey all,
I am starting to get into a routine. It isn't as hard to get up in the mornings anymore. School is just school again. Not oh my goodness I get to meet tons of new people and a new building, ride a new bus. So I am not really sure what I am suppose to blog about if nothing happens. I don't really want to be boring to everyone saying the same old same old. Yesterday I went with my family to the Erimatage. It is a beautiful place and everything is so old. They have their own water so its free and cheap for them to run their fountains. They also have a castle there but it is really small. I got to go inside of it. I posted pictures on here yesterday of it. I really enjoyed looking at the inside.
It is starting to get kind of cold here. I no longer walk or ride my bike to school. I take the bus to and home from school. I am starting to get that winter cold. I am not looking forward to it at all. My room is freezing I have gloves on as I am typing this. I really want it to be warmer out again. My host sister from Brazil has never seen the snow so this winter I am going to build a snowman and go sledding with her. I am super excited. (:
Tuesday and Wednesday I have afternoon classes that I am not looking forward to. Tuesday I have German lessons and on Wednesday I am going to dance classes. I  talked to a girl in my class today her name is Brenda. In December or January she is going to New Zealand for 2 months on an exchange and another pupil is coming to our class. The exchange students are slowly taking over... (:
This weekend I am going on another Rotary trip with my club. I don't know where but it is two days and its with Rotary so it can be nothing less than amazing.
Well that is all for today.
Auf Wiedersehen.

OktoberFest

This one might be a little long so bare with me,
I went to the famous Oktoberfest. It was amazing I loved it. There are tons of people probably twice as many as the Iowa State Fair. Most of the people are dressed in traditional outfits. My second host dad was dressed this way. It was cool to see him get in to the celebration. Oktoberfest is held in Munich. That is about a two hour drive from where I live in Bayreuth. There are tons of rides there. I rode a rollercoaster with my host sister. It was intense. I will post pictures. After that my family and I went on a ferris wheel so we could see the whole area of the celebration. Oktoberfest is not all about the drinking and getting wasted there was so much more than that. Yes a lot of people are drinking but they don't get wasted and act stupid. We went into a big tent where people were sitting at huge tables eating. There was traditonal music being played. It was awesome. I had a traditional meal. Not sure what it is called my host mom just ordered it for me. It was delicious. While I was there they had a parade of people and horses. It was very neat. They normally don't have all of these things but they are celebrating 200 years. I bought some souveniers but I can't tell you what they are because they are gifts for people back home. I want it to be a surprise. At the celebration they have tons of food and specially sweets. There was a candy place everywhere we went. On todays trip I learned a few things.
1. The only thing scarier than being able to go any speed on the Autobon is being able to go any speed you want on the Autobon while it is raining.
2. Not everyone gets wasted at Oktoberfest.
3. I love sweets.
4. I love German traditonal music.
5. I am coming back next year
6. This is going to be a great year full of things that not many people get to see.
7. Beer tastes like Beer no matter where you go. I had a sip of my host dads and it was terrible.

I think that is all for now. If I think of anything else I will just blog again.

Yepp that is all..
Love all of you!
Skype is amazing. <3

Guten Morgen

Guten Morgen All,
Friday September 24, 2010
So I have decided that I now have other reasons to love fridays since I can't watch football I get to look forward to having 2 classes on Fridays.. (: Physics then Spainsh and that my Friday. My family sends best wishes to everyone. I walked into town after school and went to a book store. It has chairs that anyone can sit in. I went to find a childrens german book. I understood about every third word. I looked at the whole thing and then I found the english book section. I read a book called Everything is Illuminated. It is a very good book. Today I word flats. My host mom asked my if I got them here when I told her no. She told me that she thought they only had nikes, Ugg boots, and flip flops in America.. (: It made me laugh.. I am going to Oktober Fest tomorrow. I will write all about it when I get back. I want to go see a new movie. I have come to notice that you don't have to speak the same language to understand a few things. 1. When peopel are arguing. 2. When a child says something smart  to the parent. 3. When something funny is said. 4. When it is a serious moment.
Today in town two girls asked me for directions. I simply just said I didn't speak german and that I was sorry. That is all for now. I am going to an Antique Market. (:

German Barbeque...?

I am watching TV with my brother as I write this. Today my class had a barbeque it was so different than what I am used to. One they used electric grills. Two they girlled bratwurst that looked like intestines.. :/ I had bread and chips. I was ok with that though. I got to know a few more of the girls in my class which was nice. After we got done with that we rode the train home from my teachers house. At the train station I bought 12 postcards all of them are wrote on with addresses. I am planning on sending them out this weekend.. (: I have been feeling a little homesick today and I got a letter from my dad....needless to say I cried. I am all better now. I went to the town hall and went to the top floor where there is a walkout. It was amazing. I got to see all of the city. I am planning on going back another day to stay longer. I have plans to go tons of other places also. I can't wait. Tonight I went to another German course. It was terrible. I didn't understand anything the teacher was saying so I just nodded. She tried to talk in English but that was an epic fail. She was talking to the others in another language..Not sure what it was. Tomorrow in school I only have 4 classes and get out at noon.. I am suppose to have sport and I guess we are suppose to swim, but I am not a big fan of swimming so we will see if I can play a game with the other kids.. not sure yet.  I have decided that I am going to be eating Milka with every meal.. Chocolate.. Its so good here. My birthday is in a month and I am so excited I hear I am getting a package but I don't know whats in it.. If anyone wants to spill the beans to me I would be more than happy to listen and I won't mention it was you. (:
Going to go and watch my new fav TV show Popstars (:

This Crazy Ride

Today was a mix of emotions.. Probably the hardest day since I got here. I woke up late, had to take the late bus. I ran up 2 flights of stairs to make to class on time. Then in school I just sat there and listened to everyone speak German and tried to  pick up a few new words hoping they were nice words. In English class my teacher asked my what Hamlet was..I answered a play and he was like no. You wouldn't know its British English.. So the english here is very different here and everyone thinks that I know everything there is to know about English.  So that was hard. Then Jaqueline and I had an hour break while everyone else was in class so we went outside and ate our snacks in peace. After eating I wanted to talk to the headmaster about switching out if Protestant religion class into and Ethics.. Well appearantly you can't do that. You have to take what you are required to take and deal. So I was talking with a teacher who is super nice. She told me that I should just not go and sit somewhere in the school and do homework. No one will ever know but her.. (: so that was good news. In my class everyone keeps to themselves and aren't very friendly to be around except for one girl named Louisa.. She invites me and Jaqueline to do everything and she shows us to our classes and is really just a nice girl. Today she asked us to eat lunch with her and her friends. They are all really cool and want to know everything about America and Brazil. (: After lunch the kids asked to hang out with us this weekend so I am making friends which is nice. I already have a countdown until the next Rotary meeting with all of the other kids.... (: Im so excited to go to Berlin. Tonight me and Jaqueline went into town by ourselves.. It was good. I went to the bank and my card was rejected so I couldn't get anything. I tried at 2 more banks and no luck.. I almost cried. Then my host dad picked my up from town and we went to the market. As we were walking out my host brother Nicoli saw a bank and we gave the card another try. It Worked..I jumped up and down and screamed. It may have been a little much but I was so happy. Tomorrow my class is having what they call a hiking day. We are going by train to our teacher's house to have a barbeque. I was excited to have a steak and some hot dogs, but I was informed today that they make brawtwurst and the steak is made out of pork... So not so sure now about the food. Well I am going to call it an early night and I get to sleep in tomorrow so I should be catching up on my sleep pretty soon.

Reality

reality has not even begun to set in. I still feel like I am on a vacation and will be flying back to the United States anytime now... Today at school my German teacher gave me like a child workbook to learn German. It is super easy and now I am making flashcards to help with the memorization. School is super boring. All I have to do right now is sit and make it look like I am trying to understand what everyone is saying. It is super hard not to fall asleep. Some of the teachers are understanding and others not so much. In Germany religion is in with the school. I was in religion today and the teacher told me there is a class called Ethics. I think I am going to try and switch into that class. I found a store today that sells American candy. I am going to check it out tomorrow after school (: I am putting on weight but it is only a few pounds. I asked the other kids and they said that they had too. I hope it doesn't get much worse. I am pretty sure if I have to ride my bike everyday I will be flat Allysa.. There is a super big hill that I have to ride up after school to get home...I made it half way before I needed an Oxygen tank.. I haven't really got homesick yet. I love my family here and they are so welcoming and will do anything for me and help me with whatever I need. I got a little upset looking at all the homecoming stuff but its ok now. I talked with my host dad last night and we found a ballroom dancing class that I am going to try and get into.. Hopefully it all works out. (: The food here is good. We go to the store almost everyday so that the food is fresh. I bought some new pants and a jacket that is really cool! (: I am missing all of the other Exchange students. I could talk normal speed English with them and now I have to slow everything down..
Tomorrow at school I have afternoon classes so my day is super long. I have Physics, Spanish, Econmics and Legal Documents, English, Biology, and Chemistry. Then I am going to try and walk home and hopefully not get lost.
Things I miss about school(Never thought I would ever say these words)
1. Driving to school in the morning.
2. Being able to get up 20 min before school
3. Standing at my locker in between classes.
4. Going from classroom to classroom,Here the teachers come to you except for music and biology
5. School Lunch....YES I just said school lunch. RWG( Richard-Wagner Gymnasium) doesn't have school lunch.
6. Being able to talk to anyone and everyone whenever i wanted.
7. Hall passes, being out in the hallways
8. Knowing my teachers/classmates names
9.SEW football fridays
10. Wearing Sweats to school... You are pretty much schunned if you wear them out in public here.
11. Being able to participate in class and give my opinion.
12. Only having 2 hallways with all the classrooms close to each other. RWG has 4 floors..

I miss getting money. All I do here is spend money I don't really like it.. Oh and i want some Chinese food. There is a store here but I don't know how to order.. (:
Well thats the not so short blog about life for me right now
Peace Out Girl Scout

WeiBWasser

This weekend I went by train to a town called WeiBWasser(Veis Vasser) meaning: White Water. On Friday I got up around 7:00 and went to the train station in Bayreuth. I got my train ticket and was off. It took me the whole day to get to WeiBWasser. It is located in North Saxony near the Poland border. I live in Bavaria the next state south. Once I got to the hostile where all of the foreign exchange students in our district would be staying I started to mingel and talk to the other students. There was 4 other kids from the U.S. One in Alaska, One in Tennesse, and Two in Illinois. There was about 30 students all together with 8 Rotex. All of the students had to stand up who you were, where you are from, how old you are, and where you are living in Germany. Later that night we had supper and sat in our rooms till 4 in the morning just talking about everything and anything.
On Saturday we got up had breakfast and then had to get on a bus and all we knew was that we needed clothes that could maybe get dirty and a warm jacket. The bus looked like a garage truck..I'll put pics on. (:
We drove for about 10 min and pulled up to this coal mine. It was so big and you could see the different layers that they were taking apart to get to the coal. We then seperated into 2 groups. My group went in 4 cars and went to a sand track at the back of the mine. We got to drive the cars around the track it was awesome. In my car I had 2 girls from Taiwan who had never drove before and couldn't tell the gas from the brakes.....Needless to say it was an experience. When I drove the guy with us kept yelling at me because i was going to fast... I was fine. (:  After everyone drove we went and got to ride in these racecars that went on another track super fast. Mom, No need to worry I was strapped in with a head set and it was all good. Anyway then we had soup for lunch and switched groups. I went in the garabage truck bus and we went to the center of the mine. All you could see for miles was coal and piles of dirt. We got to take a piece of coal with us. In the mine they have one of the biggest what I would call a bulldozer thing. It scoops up the dirt off of each layer and puts it on a conveyer belt system that takes it clear across the mine. Later that night we had a little dance for all of the students..It was so much fun. There was music playing from every continent.. I hear a bunch of new songs. The cha cha slide came on and only 3 or 4 of us knew it so we had to teach everyone. I also learned a new Brazilian dance. It was so much fun. There was also a dance from Taiwan. (:
On Sunday the whole group walked to a national park in German. This park is seperated into 2 parts one side is owned by Germany and the other part Poland. We walked on the bridge and in the middle if you stood just right you were standing in both countries. After we walked around in Poland for a while we went back to Germany and went to see a Castle. It was not completely in original form, but very close. I was so big and has tons of floors. Through out the whole castle was interactive games to learn the history and some of the facts of the castle like: Who built it, why they built it, who all lived there, and all of the people who had been in the castle. It was so interesting. After the group was done we went back to the train station and went home. On the way home my 3rd train was 30 mins late and I missed my last train to Bayreuth. Luckily my host dad was on his game and got on the internet and saw I was late and picked me up in the next town over. If he wouldn't have been there I would have had to wait 2 hours for the next train. I got home and  ate and now I am sitting in bed. I have to ride my bike to school tomorrow and I am kind of afraid of getting lost.....
Ok well that was my fun filled weekend.
Check back in a few days. I will hopfully have had a new blog. Hope you are enjoying my writings. Sorry about misspellings and anything else.

Loving it here

Today was my second day of school. I have't been in Germany a week yet and I am starting to fall in love with Bayreuth.. (:
In school I had German, Math, English, History, Chemistry, and Spainish. It was super boring because I don't understand anyone. Except for the boys in the back row who think it is funny to swear and say weird things in English.. Wondering if i can hear them or will pick up on it. Today we had a break. Its like a lunch time back home but you dont get lunch and its earler in the morning. I talked with Louisa and some of her friends. I decided today that I am going to have to play Charades with everyone when they want to know what something is in English.. Today it was flour. (:
A boy in my class was talking to me and we were talking about the other boys and he was saying how weird they were or something. Then they would talk in German. After a little bit one of the boys said i should learn German from this kid.. I told him i didn't think it was a good idea..I would be talking like a sailor and not even knowing it.. Later today I am going to Nicoli's soccer game. I am super excited!!! I asked what color I should wear and if the team had a name. I guess I am suppose to wear red, white, and black... Should be fun. It has been raining but Nicoli likes to play when its wet out. I am assuming its the same feeling the football players have when its muddy out. (:
When I got home my host mom had lunch made.. It was delicious.. Spagehitti noodles with spiniach and some kind of oil and vinegar.. I like it a lot. After that me and Nicoli went to the new store that just opened in town. It is super nice. Right when you walk in there is a guy wearing an outfit like you would see at a renisannce fair. He gave me a rose. I almost got my picture taken with him but he walked away to fast..): On the way out after  buying 5 things of Milka(Chocolate) we got Cotton Candy... it was Awesome. As me and Nicoli were walking home an older man walked up to us with a little girl crying. I guess she was lost and her brother left her. So we went and got Franzi(host sister) and we walked her to her house. Her brother was fine at home.. I think she was just confused..No more school for this week. Tomorrow me and Jaqueline go to WeissWasser.. Its near the border of Germany and Poland. I will write about it when I get there or after I get back..
Ok that is all for today.

German School

Today was my first day of school in Germany. I woke up on time! (: Then ate and Peter took me to the school by car. I talked to the Vice Principal(well i didn't talk i just sat there and smiled). Herr Weber showed me and Jaqueline to our first classroom. Math was our first subject...):
Things i learned in school today:
1. Math is universal. You may not understand what the teacher is saying but you can understand the formulas.
2. I still don't like Math!
3. I want a good ol' 5 star 5 subject notbook.
4. You cannot choose what classes you get to take.
5. I still don't like music class and its not any better in German.
6. I don't understand anything anyone is saying and i am suppose to be taking notes.
7. The teachers have handwriting like doctors, it might be that it is German, but I don't think so.
8. No White boards in site. All of the teachers have chalk boards that move up and down.
9. Boys will be Boys. 4 of the boys in my class got moved from the back row to the front on the second day..
10. RWG is huge and you just have to ask for help. If they start talking in German stare at them blankly and their friend will tell them to use english..

I am  having luch now. Meat with rice, peaches, and milkrice. its super yummy (:
I am going to watch movies after lunch and hopefully not fall asleep so my days and nights stay right.
School is nothing to be nervous for. kids are kids are kids all over the earth. (:

The Bus

Ok so i rode a public bus for the first time today. Not going to lie it was a bit scary. Tomorrow morning school starts. I got a pair of new shoes and a t-shirt so i don't stand out to much. I also got a sim card. Its for a cell phone. I can only use it in Germany. I have to be up super early for school. I am so not used to that. My family has already give me a name Morgen Muffel...it because i am not a morning person(: haha some things will never change. I am surrounded by so many things that are new. My brain is just going and going. Alright i have to go now. I'm going to go watch my first German movie. Should be interesting. Oh yea, earlier i watched spongebob and ICarly in German  (:

The Opera House

Today has been a long day. My sleeping pattern is still a bit messed up. Astrid and I went back to The Opera House for a backstage tour. We met up with her mom, Jaqueline, and Mrs. Haupenthal. It was so cool to see it from a different point of view. It has so much history I couldn't even begin to describe. I bought a backpack for school. Later I am going back to town, hopefully by car, to get my bus pass. Annika is going to show me how to get to and from school. Then later I want to go shopping for a shirt and maybe some new flatts. Europe has the coolest style of clothes. (: I am waiting for Peter to get home so I can charge my computer. I am going to post again tonight with some pictures from today!

The Buildings

This is Peter and I infront of an old building we walked by in town. (:

Bayreuth

Today I went to one of the oldest Opera Houses in Bayreuth. It was amazing. The celing had paintings of angles and people. There was gold everywhere. It had a huge stage and 3 floors of balconies. Then my family and I went to the bank to see if my credit card would work. The first machine I tried was a no go but then we tried another and it worked just fine. It can also translate into English! After that we went to the store to get some things I needed that I forgot at home: Razors(Yes germans shave), Deoderant, hair ties, and a german magazine. I paid and everything was great. I even used my German! Things I learned today. Germans don't eat Sauerkraut for everything.. (: German is diffucult but getting better. School starts this week I am so nervous. Me and Jaqueline will be in the same class which is good. Ok that is all for now (:

Learning to be German

.... I have done so much in the past few days and i have learned so much. My german is growing everyday. I pick up a few words everday. I have learned that i don't like carbonated water and i like it out of the good ol' tap. (: The wip cream is not sweet at all. It has no taste at all really. I appearently eat nothing. My family thinks i am on a diet because i dont eat enough... I eat plenty. Bayreuth has so many old buildings and churches. It is so historical. Today i went to a church that was built by a count and has a tower with 8 sides on the outside and on the inside it is big enough so that you could ride your horse with buggy. Yesterday Peter(My host dad) and Astrid (My host mom) drove me around all of the town. I saw Bayreuth from the top of the hill. It was amazing. The day before that i rode my bike into town where only bikes are allowed i saw so many people and experienced culture. My host sisters and I were talking today about movies. They quoted The Hangover! (: Here in Germany they have a movie called Bilight..It makes fun of Twilight. hopefully I get to see it (: That is all for now

One Week Left!

Hey Guys,
I have one week left in the US. I am going to miss it so much. Thing to miss: Sadly the weather, the corn, friday football nights, M&M pizza at pizza bar, my bed, all of the people.

Status update, Still in Iowa for a week. I got all of the gifts for everyone i need to. YAY exciting. I have put quite the collection of songs on my laptop to listen to while in Germany.
